Ready for Spring

This last week has been tough. I got very little done, and my wrist has been hurting, which has prevented me from going to yoga.  The weather has been bleak and grey. Overall, I've just been feeling a little blah and uninspired. I didn't even find much worth photographing on a trip to the Norfolk Botanical Garden, normally one of my favorite spots, and instead just decided to take a long walk for exercise.
To top it all off, yesterday I was supposed to leave for a weeklong trip to the Boston area and New Hampshire, but had to cancel that because halfway across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, which is 18 miles long, my check engine light blinked at me. After stopping at the end of the bridge to check my oil I restarted the car and the light stayed on, and my normally quite, smooth riding Volvo was definitely not a happy little station wagon. Also, I had my dogs with me, to add stress to an already shitty situation. So, I drove the entire 18 miles back over the bridge at 40-45 mph, hoping I wouldn't stall out going up hill. Fortunately, I got home just fine, but my week away is definitely canceled. In addition to the cost, at this point it just isn't worth the long drive for only a few days away. I had really been looking forward to it though. I've been missing snow all winter. I had planned on buying myself some snow shoes and tramping about in the woods with my dogs, I was going to photograph some snowy waterfalls and rivers, I was going to enjoy knitting by the fire, hopefully working on some art, and I was going to see some family and friends. I was thoroughly unhappy and unpleasant to be around yesterday.

Today is better. I have chosen to look on the bright side and be super productive this week. Hopefully I will get my car back tomorrow, and I will take a few day trips hiking with the dogs.  I have accepted that I will not get to experience any real Winter this year, and now I am looking forward to Spring. I want warm weather, longer days, flowers in bloom, and green on the trees. And I want to start working in my garden.  I don't have too much longer to wait. Already some of the early booming daffodils have bloomed, and the magnolia buds are starting to open. What are you most looking forward to about spring?

  1. I know what you mean about not having any "real winter" - just cold, wind and the occasional ice. Hope our spring is nicer! Can't wait to start on the garden.
