Sunrise Shoot at NGB

On saturday I had the opportunity to photograph the sunrise at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. Except for the getting up early, it was great, there were only 8 of us, and we had the whole park to ourselves. First we were driven to the best spot to watch the sunrise, then wandered around the garden for a few hours, completely undisturbed in the beautiful early morning light. I haven't finished editing my photos yet (I took about 175) but here is what I think is my favorite.

And the winners of the notebook giveaway, I had such a great response I decided to giveaway 2. TopHat will be getting a Queen Anne's Lace notebook and Connie will be getting a Chickadee notebook.

Medusae

Jellyfish are quite beautiful and interesting to look at, I just don't particularly like swimming with them.
This is an illustration I started a very long time ago, and just finished last week. I had difficulty with the background, and I'm still not completely sure about it. I tried seaweed and a few other things, but wasn't quite happy with it. Then I added several other jellyfish, because they are usually found in schools.

And I have a fun free project too! I designed these valentines made with cut paper for Cut Card Stock. You can find my tutorial on their blog.

Crafty Stuff Giveaway

In my reorganization of my studio, I'm trying to be ruthless about purging some stuff that I just won't use. I came up with several crafty items to giveaway, and because Goodwill doesn't accept these items, I'm giving them away here on my blog. I haven't finished packing it all up yet, but so far I know the package will contain some cheap acrylic and cotton yarns, two small blank canvases, some scrapbooking/ATC materials, probably a few small fabric scraps, and other random supplies.
If you're interested leave a comment here by Friday 6/26, and I'll randomly select a winner.

Book Giveaway!! Kyuuto: Woolly Embroidery

Kyuuto: Woolly Embroidery, originally uploaded by the workroom.

I've been meaning to do this give away/ contest for awhile, but wanted to wait until after the holidays. I bought this book because I fell in love with some of the beautiful designs, but after some thought decided I already had enough hobbies and supplies cluttering my office and this would just be one more distraction.
Just leave me a by Jan 18, and one reader will receive this great book.

Came across this call for submissions on SpiralMail. Not quite sure what I should send in though.
Also, I have an update on the weeds contest, I have decided to expand it to include wildflowers also. So, just leave me a comment by March 31 with a link to your own original writing, art or photo about weeds or wildflowers, and my favorite will receive a 4 pack of my dandelion notecards.
Also, if you go to my flickr you can check out the "weeds and wildflowers" group. I haven't posted any photos yet, but I'm planning a field trip to the local state park soon.

Weeds Contest, win Scarlett Design Note-cards!!!

Between traveling quite a bit in February and working more than usual at my paying job, I wasn't able to get my spring line up on my etsy site as soon as I would have liked. But I have finally begun adding my new items, including this dandelion design.

What is a weed? Many people consider Dandelions weeds. I don't.
Leave a link in the comment section to your own original writing, photo, or artwork about weeds, by March 30 and my favorite will win a 4 pack of these note-cards.
The prints have slightly more subdued colors, which I'm very happy with.

"A weed is a plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"What would the world be, once bereft of wet and wildness? Let them be left. O let them be left, wildness and wet; Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet." -Gerard Manly Hopkins

weed: (noun)1. a valueless plant growing wild, esp. one that grows on cultivated ground to the exclusion or injury of the desired crop. 2. any undesirable or troublesome plant, esp. one that grows profusely where it is not wanted: The vacant lot was covered with weeds. -dictionary.com
