White Cherry Blossoms
Last month I was able to take a day trip up to Washington DC for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Although I was too early to see the cherry trees in peak bloom, I was able to find many beautiful trees around East Potomac Park, behind the Jefferson Memorial. This area is not as well maintained as the Tidal Basin, but I prefer it for the variety of different trees and the lack of crowds.
Here are some shots of the white cherry trees.

First Camping Trip of 2013, Ocracoke Island
Easter weekend was our first camping trip of the 2013, to Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks. We were here for Easter weekend last year too, but this year was definitely colder, still comfortable for sleeping outside though, and the sun was warm, so great for sitting out on the beach, just not for swimming.
Flip flops! And now that it is started to warm up, finally, I've worn them several times since. I made the skirt myself, using a pattern from the Alabama Studio Style Book. I'll hopefully get around to posting full length photos of it sometime soon, because I love how it came out.
Alone on the beach. We got the off road driving pass so we were able to drive out to a nice secluded spot on the beach. We saw maybe 3 other trucks all day. Even last year on July 4 weekend, other vehicles were at least 50 feet away even during the most crowded part of the day.
I love collecting shells, and I found a bunch of little pink ones to bring home with me this time.
This is the third time we've been to Ocracoke, and every time I wish I had a few more days. I haven't even gotten around to exploring much of the little village yet. Hopefully, I'll be back soon.

Cape Henry Lighthouse
Recently, I have found out I will most likely be moving in June, and so I have been playing tourist and visiting any sites I haven't seen in the Virginia Beach area, and going back to some I haven't visited in awhile. This week, I went to climb the Cape Henry Lighthouse. I love lighthouses, but for some reason never made the effort to visit this one, even though it is only about 5 minutes away from my house. The light house is actually located inside an active military base, but access is maintained for the public to visit this historic site.
The first 54 steps, to get to the top I had to climb 191 total, and my legs definitely felt it the next day.
View from the top of the old light house, looking towards the new one. The views from the top were beautiful, looking North and South along the Atlantic coast, and even into the Chesapeake Bay.

Thinking about moving, I hope it works out, but 6 weeks later everything seems to be moving awfully slowly. Everyone keeps telling me to have patience.

Walking on Beaches, both in my neighborhood, and nearby at First Landing State Park
I've always loved tide pools, they make such interesting shapes as they drain towards the ocean.
"So many possibilities for the imagination. Taking a closer look at shape, lines, gaps. Not taking a single portion of the beach for granted, finding the new in all of it.

Daffodil Treasury
We are still waiting for spring here in Virginia, so far the only signs that warmer weather is on the way are daffodils and magnolias in bloom.

Back Bay and Beacon Hill
One of my favorite things to do in Boston, or any city really, is just to walk. Usually I have a loose plan of where I intend to go, but give myself the freedom to wander if something catches my eye. These were taken of the Back Bay and Beacon Hill areas of Boston, filled with old buildings and interesting architecture, from the colonial period to the present.
Ironwork on the gate at King's Chapel
Its actually kind of difficult to photograph these neighborhoods, because so many modern distractions (cars, electrical wires, etc.) get in the way. I found that the black and white showcased the interesting details better than color.
